It has been a week now since Kate has been moved to 2 North rehab at Upstate Hospital and we are ALL a bit exhausted.  A typical day starts at 9:30 and ends at 3:30 with seven 1/2 hour therapy sessions scheduled.  This seems even more grueling because every 1/2 hour we are moving to another therapy as opposed to the 4 therapy sessions we were getting in Schenectady.    I know Katlyn’s extended family is sure happy to have her closer as they are all able to visit more frequently.  It is good to see how Katlyn is responding to the different techniques of therapy.  As most of you have already heard Katlyn has been able to once again give us a thumbs up and this has become her main source of communication.  It is great to finally be able to get answers to our questions.  She’ll even try to trick us sometimes and then when we catch her, she’ll chuckle like “gotcha”.

So happy you are improving!! I got a job now so that only adds more stuff to my day but your therapy looks like a busy school day for you too! It is so good to know you are you a short trip away! Keep giving them the thumbs up and kick those braces off and you can run out of there! I know its easyer said then done but you have come so far! Its one of those things that your friends can see but you can’t! Just trust me! ;-) ! I love you and miss you lots!!!

AWESOME JOB, KATE!! I am so, so, so proud of you!! Great job!! I know Grandpa Kelley was super excited after his visit with you yesterday — he could not say enough about how great you look and how great you did in therapy! (…he was also pretty proud that he got to escort you to your next therapy session, but don’t tell him I told you ;) I can’t wait to see and hear you for myself again in a couple weeks! That laugh of yours is definitely contagious and is truly so fun to hear! Maybe I can even find another HUGE needle for Mom to use on me?! :) Or, better yet, how about you wake up and shave Uncle Mike’s head!! There would be a massive amount of smiling then!!

Stay strong, keep laughing, keep giving those thumbs up and keep climbing!! I love you BIG!!

    Hi Katlyn,

I am very pleased to hear about the progress you are making. I am also glad that you are nearer to your family. When I was in the hospital I always wanted my family around me. Keep doing your therapy sessions and you will get through this in no time. I am praying for you every day.

    Take care Princess,

    John Walter

Good Morning Kate! I am so happy to hear about your success! You are doing a fantastic job…you continue to not only make your family proud, but also your friends! A few weekends ago we took a new family picture of Dave, myself, Julissa and Maya and in the picture I had your bracelet on. Let me tell you, I have had more people comment on your bracelet and asking me what it is for because you can definately see it in the picture! So now everytime I look at my picture (we have a HUGE one in the dining room) it makes me think of you too!!! Keep climbing and staying strong!

Even though I don’t leave messages or see you as often as I’d like please know that you are in my heart and mind every day. Just hearing you giggle is so exciting and brings such smiles to those that hear it. It’s so good to have you closer to home and I look forward to coming up soon with Taylor and seeing you. Keep climbing!!! Say hi to everyone!

    KATLYN!!!

I hope you are doing well. I am so excited to see you NEXT WEEK!!! WHOO HOOO!!!

It has been really crappy at work and really busy with other life things that I SO NEED vacation.

Most of all I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU!!!! It feels like FOREVER! I thought of you the other day when Owen was signing “Eat” cuz all he wanted was one of you favorites (I can’t remember what it was right now… I wil). I told him he was going to have to fight you for it! He is so funny. Oh! & I know you will get a kick out of the fact that he (just like the girls) likes to “dunk dunk”. If I can’t get him to eat something I just have to give him something to dunk it in…. ketchup, jelly & teriyaki are his favorites. I haven’t tried Franks Red Hot yet – but since he likes everything else you like I am sure it is just a matter of time!!!!

I can’t wait to hear your laugh—- and I just know he will make you laugh! If he wants to eat something specific (like crackers) he will sign “eat”. If I don’t give it to him he will push my hand away from what I am trying to give him (like fruit or meat) and more persistently sign/say “EAT”. It cracks me up.

I know you are so busy with your new therapy & I know you are getting better everyday. I just wanted to remind you that we are all behind you & love you & think of you ALL THE TIME!

Love you a ton! Keep climbing!!

Aunt Patti, Uncle Seth & Owen

    SEE YOU SOON!!!!
